Glycerin or Glycerine: Glycerine is a natural moisturizer and emollient. Most big soap manufacturers actually remove the glycerin from their soap and save it for their high end products such as lotions, moisturizers, etc. We actually infuse extra glycerin into our melt and pour soap base, plus we only use a pharmaceutical grade of glycerine in our soap bases.
Propylene Glycol: Propylene Glycol is needed to produce the consistency in the soap, for texture, feel and lather. Propylene Glycol is a natural gas extracted from the earth and purified. Here again, we only use a pharmaceutical grade of Propylene Glycol.
Stearic Acid: Stearic Acid is a fat derived from vegetable oil. You can't make soap without some type of fat and we've elected to use stearic acid as part of our process due to it's consistency and cleaning abilities.
Myristic Acid: Myristic Acid is the other fat we elected to use in our melt and pour soap base. Myristic Acid is a fat that is derived mainly from the palm and nutmeg trees of Malaysia.. Myristic acid is what softens the soap and binds the fats together so that it isn't so hard and crumbly.
Triethanolamine: Often abbreviated TEA, Triethanolamine is an organic chemical compound that is both a tertiary amine and a triol, which basically means it is used as a natural pH balancer in the melt and pour soap bases.
Sorbitol: Sorbitol is a natural moistener and it also makes the clear soap clear. Sorbitol is also a sweetener and a derivative of corn.
Sodium Laureth Sulfate: Sodium Laureth Sulfate is used as a dispersant and it is derived from coconut and/or palm kernel oil. It is used to help give the soap a rich, gentle sudsy lather.
Sodium Hydroxide: Sodium Hydroxide is used to neutralize the fatty acids and turn them to salt. (yes, soap is a salt!) :) Soap is produced by a saponification reaction of a fat or oil. Sodium hydroxide is used to neutralize the fatty acid and convert it to the salt (soap).
Titanium Dioxide: Titanium Dioxide is a safe and naturally occurring pigment whitener that is used in soap and other cosmetics.
